Classes

Each class at FHP is designed to provide plenty of indoor and outdoor "free play," as well as time for more group-centered activities, such as story, art, and snack. We strive to provide a balance between active and quiet time, and to give each child as much individual attention as possible.

Twos

classes

The Twos classes progress at a gradual and relaxed pace to encourage confidence and success. Children will be introduced to experiences that build on their emerging awareness of the world around them as the teachers support and encourage peer interaction and group play.

  • To qualify, children must be 2 years of age by September 30th

  • The Twos classes meet 2 days per week:  Tuesdays & Thursdays, from 9:15 to 11:45 a.m

  • Maximum class size is 10 students*

  • One parent assists daily, maintaining a maximum adult to child ratio of 1:4

Threes

classes

The Threes classes build on experiences from the twos class while recognizing that this may be some children's first school experience. The Threes class is always an active group; free time activities allow for social and motor development and much imagination.

  • To qualify, children must be 3 years of age by September 30th

  • We currently offer 2 Threes classes

    • One Threes class meets 3 days per week:  Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays, from 9:15 to noon

    • The other Threes class meets 5 days per week, from 9:15 to noon.

  • The teachers work together across classes to ensure a similar, age-appropriate curriculum; the 5-day Threes class also collaborates with the Fours occasionally. 5-day Threes encourages the children to learn and play with greater continuity as they have more days to explore and experiment with school spaces and materials.

  • Maximum class size is 10 students*

  • One parent assists daily, maintaining a maximum adult to child ratio of 1:5

fours

class

Our Fours class curriculum aims to maintain a balance between activities that allow the children freedom and those which provide more structure to begin the foundation for kindergarten and more formal schooling. The Fours also spend more time together as a group, learning to share, ask questions, listen and take turns during Morning Meeting, snack, and story time.

  • To qualify, children must be 4 years of age by September 30th

  • The Fours class meets 5 days per week:  Monday through Friday, from 9:15 to noon

  • Maximum class size is 14 students*

  • One parent assists daily. We maintain a maximum adult to child ratio of 1:5

*  Fort Hunt Preschool has the sole discretion to make the final determination as to class offerings, class size, and class composition. Adult to child ratios are also maintained by the addition as needed of a Teaching Assistant.
